There is a lot of hype about ‘The Cloud’, but what is it? Will it work for you?

‘The Cloud’ is just like a computer like any other but is accessed via the internet rather than having a physical machine in your office, workshop etc.

Whether or not ‘The Cloud’ will be useful to you depends on how you work. If you only work using a computer in your office etc. it is probably not for you – in fact it could actually work against you if you have a poor internet connection, additionally, if your internet connection is offline, you will not be able to access any of your applications, server or company data from the cloud.

It’s a common misconception that only large businesses can afford to use the cloud, when in fact, cloud services are extremely affordable for smaller businesses. Like most IT developments it is not a magic fix to all your problems, nor is it something to be feared, it just depends on whether or not it helps you and your businesses. So it is best to put all the marketing and sales advice aside and perhaps ask a boring accountant for input, after all we work with numbers and computers all day long!
