“You can’t build a reputation on what you’re going to do.” Henry Ford

It’s old news now that larger financial firms are diving into the small business accounting world – no doubt to take advantage of the fact that SMEs are big business or perhaps to provide a service they believe no one else is offering? But with my many years of experience I know that SMEs like to deal with local businesses themselves, but why?

One good example to tap in to is the relationship angle. Let me ask you this. “Does your accountant deal with big clients; and I mean real big corporations like banks and utilities etc?” If the answer is yes, then let’s analyse one scenario: you have a problem with a bank who also happens to be a client of this particular firm, the question here is “Will the accounting firm bat for their SME client or will they consider the bigger client?”

You see sometimes there will be a cross-over with clients, one may require the services of another and regardless of whether you’re an SME or a bigger client like a bank or utility company, the accountant has a duty to make sure their smaller clients are taken care of and are deserving of the service they signed up for – do you agree?

If you like the way we think – you will like the way we work.
