“If you mean to profit, learn to please.” Winston Churchill

/ Government, Tax

On July 8 2015 the new Government will deliver its second Budget of the year. This is an unusual step for any Government so why another one you ask? Well they want to reassure the public that they are keeping to the promises they made in their manifesto and pledging their commitment to the British public I imagine.

With no coalition this time it’s a 100% Conservative budget and the 7th one for our Chancellor and with the nation watching with anticipation will he keep to his promises? Where there are savings we must expect to see and there will be hikes elsewhere but where and how will these affect small businesses and business people?

We will soon find out but let’s not get too bogged down with the ifs, buts and maybes, let’s take a look at a few interesting points from history:

  • The famous red briefcase was made in 1860 and used by every Chancellor until Gordon Brown had a new one made
  • It wasn’t just the Budget secrets that it held. It was claimed that Norman Lamont kept a bottle of whisky inside the briefcase while the Budget speech was kept in a plastic bag. Good job it never fell to the ground!
  • The longest Budget speech was four hours and 45 minutes – MPs have been known to fall asleep at the drop of a hat so I wonder how many stayed awake for this one?

I don’t know how many Budgets we’ve had since they first came in to being but I am interested in what you would like to see in the July Budget.

If you like the way we think – you will like the way we work.
