As businesses reopen, and restrictions are (we hope!) a thing from the past, we have all learnt to appreciate the people in our work teams, accounting is no different.

If you are currently expanding or looking to hire for your business, we have outlined some important things to look out for:

  1. Culture and Character: hiring staff who show up every day on time with enthusiasm to grow are a better fit no matter what their skill-set is. Many prospects have the preparation but not the same hunger to help your business grow.
  2. Look for more than skills: A new employee who fits into your culture can improve your team’s dynamic, where your team share in your passion for what they are doing that will transmit to their approach and customers alike.
  3. Finding new talent pool: if you use the traditional ways of hiring without much success, try mentioning your business in community organisations, evening classes or if you play any sports. Your known network might know of a suitable candidate.
  4. Wear your customer’s shoes: contact your business from another number, try leaving a voice message and wait for reply, email from another address, or ask a friend to be a mystery shopper. The idea is not to spy on your employees but to find and fix gaps in customer experience and offer training if needed.

It’s so important to get the right people in your team, it can quite literally be the difference between success and failure. There are lots of the right people out there so make sure you find what’s best for your business.

We are always happy to discuss further any of your business needs, please contact your local accountant to find out more information.
