Ducking tax, who’s to blame?

Starbucks sprung to the headlines last week for all the wrong reasons. According to a recent report the company is reported to have paid less than 1% in corporation tax on the £3bn that it has made in the UK since 1998.

Pasty Tax – the saga continues

Surely not another U-turn in the pasty tax saga? The current argument is whether Subway sandwiches that are toasted should incur the 20% charge. The existing rule suggests products that are left to return to ‘ambient temperatures’ on shelves in bakeries and supermarkets are not included and only those that are kept warm will attract the VAT.
