We are used to “directory scams”, the sort of thing where you receive a letter or email inviting you to become listed in some, usually “prestigious”, directory or other with the excessively large charge buried in microscopically small print.
We were rather surprised to be told by one of our clients that BT have laid themselves open to accusations of similar tactics. Our client found, in the depths of his latest telephone bill, a charge for phone book listings for business telephone lines. When they were contacted BT said that they had circularised their business customers some months previously and that it was up to the customers to opt out! Now we are not suggesting that BT are running a scam but they deserve zero marks for customer care!
