Is there any point in making New Year’s resolutions?

/ Tax

First I would like to wish you all a very prosperous New Year and let’s make it a good one. Let me ask you something; have you made your New Year’s resolutions? I am not asking about your private life – I am asking about your business? Whether for personal or business reasons there is always something we want to do better or something we want to achieve. And considering all the economic pressures and uncertainties, we all need to focus on running and developing our business.

The problem is very often time and there are just so many things we need to do, so here are two very simple and very effective suggestions:

  • Firstly, make a simple plan for the year ahead, but keep it simple. It keeps you focused, and forces you to cover some of the many factors such as tax deadlines and HMRC compliance etc. and with all the ups and downs you will ultimately face, having a plan should minimise any pitfalls.
  • Secondly, make good on any mistakes you made last year; learn from them and move on but don’t make the same mistakes again. If you haven’t learnt from them then you could be in trouble.

Remember, failing to plan is planning to fail, make your New Year’s resolutions for business! If you like the way we think – you will like the way we work.
