When Livia arrived in the UK, she had enough money to support herself for six months. Her Slovakian qualifications weren’t recognised in the UK and she worked 80-hour weeks, in two jobs, to fund herself through UK accounting technician qualifications.

Once qualified, Livia sent out 100 letters and applications before securing a role with MITIE, where she continued her professional development to become a management accountant. She continued her career at Interserve, where she was known as ‘Miss to the penny’, for her phenomenal attention to detail. Interserve was then taken over by MITIE, taking her almost full circle.

Outside of work, the passion that kept her going through the long hours of study and work, was her dogs. Livia and her partner, Ian, had two beautiful Dobermans, and were devastated when they lost both dogs in 2019. They decided not to have any more pets, as the pain of losing them was too much to go through again. But Livia felt their home was empty without canine companions – and she and Ian had soon adopted two more beautiful Dobermans through DRUE, a Doberman rescue charity. When she decided to start her own business, Livia initially thought about combining her work and her passion through establishing dog walking or grooming company. But she had worked hard to become a fully qualified accountant and knew she was good at what she did. So she decided to join AIMS. She said: ”I am passionate about supporting and mentoring start-ups and young businesses, because I know from experience how hard it can be. I am now using my skills and experience to help my clients grow their businesses. And I have the back-up of AIMS to help me with the right support tools, such as CRM systems and marketing.  I have a very positive outlook, and I think that’s infectious, because all my clients seem to share it!”
